Mark William Dusko was born in 1972 in Reading, Pennsylvania. He is the middle child of five siblings and the son of notable commercial artist and painter John Dusko. Mark started drawing comic strips around the age of seven. He began as most do, copying the comics of Peanuts, Garfield, The Wizard of Id…etc. He filled up many drawing tablets, pieces of cardboard, and whatever else he could find that was blank! By the time he was in middle school, he was drawing comics and posters for school papers and various events. As he grew up, his interests became more varied and he turned his attention toward the evolving field of technology. He studied computer programming, electronic circuit design, and even puppetry! Eventhough Mark decided these technological wonders would make a great career, he never stopped drawing. “My mind creates things, there doesn’t seem to be anything I can do about it but let it out” -Mark Dusko.
Mark earned a degree in electronics engineering in 1995. He has worked as a technician, engineer, and digital image specialist. There is a definite ”technology” influence in Mark’s work.
One day, while at a local yard sale, Mark picked up a book of Ziggy cartoons for 25 cents. Mark always enjoys the wisdom of that little bald guy and he had so much fun reading it that it started him reading comics strips whenever possible. He even started buying comic strip collections at used book stores and flea markets. He once again fell in love with comic strips and started thinking about making his own. After many hours of sketching, writing, and brain storming, Brother’s Keeper was born. It’s about the joy and frustrations of growing up with a brother while trying to make sense of this amazing and sometimes baffling world.
Mark currently lives in Pennsylvania where he creates Brothers Keeper, and takes care of his six turtles.
